One man has died and another is in a critical condition after suffering multiple gunshot wounds outside a gym in Sydney’s west.

Police said they attended the business on Parramatta Road in Auburn just after 8pm after reports of a shooting.

The men were treated at the scene, with one suffering up to 10 gunshot wounds all over his body, including the head, according to paramedics.

The other was shot multiple times in the arms and legs, before going into cardiac arrest.

Despite the efforts of emergency personnel one of the men died.

Both men are believed to be in their late 20s or early 30s, ambulance media said.

The shooting happened outside Bodyfit Fitness Centre.

There have also been two car fires tonight in Berala and Greenacre.

It is unclear at this stage whether they are linked to the shootings.

They come after underworld crime figure Mahmoud “Brownie” Ahmad was gunned down in a “hail of bullets” late last month.

The 39-year-old, who had a $1 million bounty on his head, was killed after leaving an associate’s home about 9:30pm at Greenacre.

Ahmad had recently served jail time over the fatal shooting of a man outside a Condell Park smash repair shop in 2016.

Following his death, police vowed to step up enforcement efforts.
