Mitford murder: Mohin placed on fresh 5-day remand

Bangladesh desk:  A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted a fresh five-day remand for Mahmudul Hasan Mohin, the prime accused in the brutal murder of scrap trader Lal Chand alias Sohag near Mitford Hospital (Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital).

Mohin was produced before the court after completing a previous five-day remand.

Kotwali Police Station officer-in-charge Moniruzzaman, the case’s investigation officer, sought a 10-day remand for further interrogation.

Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazur Rahman approved a five-day remand after the hearing. No defense lawyer appeared on behalf of Mohin during the proceedings.

The gruesome killing occurred on July 9, when 39-year-old Sohag was hacked, beaten, and bludgeoned with stones near the hospital gate.

His elder sister later filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station, while police filed a separate case under the Arms Act.

So far, seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the widely condemned murder.
