Nation still under a dark shadow: Jamaat Ameer

Bangladesh desk: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Friday said the nation remains under a “dark shadow,” vowing that Islami Chhatra Shibir and Jamaat-e-Islami would continue their struggle until it is removed.

He made the remarks while addressing the central members’ conference of Islami Chhatra Shibir held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital.

“The dark shadow has not yet lifted from the nation,” Dr Shafiqur Rahman said. “Until this shadow is removed, Islami Chhatra Shibir and Jamaat-e-Islami will continue their struggle.”

He called for unity across political parties and religious communities, saying collective efforts are needed to build a corruption-free, discrimination-free and justice-based Bangladesh.
Emphasising human development, the Jamaat chief said the party does not believe in unemployment allowances but rather in creating skilled citizens through quality education.

“If a strong and effective curriculum is introduced in the education system, skilled and capable citizens will emerge,” he said, stressing the need for reform-oriented education policies to ensure long-term national progress.

Addressing the same conference, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar alleged that attempts were being made to suppress Islami Chhatra Shibir through misinformation and propaganda.

“False narratives and smear campaigns are being used to silence Chhatra Shibir,” he said. “Labels such as anti-independence, allegations of violence, or threats like crossfire and secret detention centres cannot stop Chhatra Shibir.”

He said the organisation would continue its activities despite what he described as intimidation and political pressure, asserting that student politics should be allowed to operate freely in a democratic environment.

The conference brought together central leaders and members of Islami Chhatra Shibir from across the country and focused on organisational direction, political challenges and the role of student activism in what Jamaat leaders described as a changing national context.
