Hasina can never be forgiven for July mass killing: Fakhrul

Bangladesh desk: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina can never be forgiven for the recent incidents of state violence, calling her a “disgrace to humanity and to mothers.”

He demanded justice for those killed and injured during the July protests.

Fakhrul made the remarks while addressing a tree-plantation event, organized by the BNP’s Krishak Dal and Amra BNP Poribar, held at the grave of former President Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Sunday.

“Sheikh Hasina is a stain on humanity, a disgrace to mothers—there can be no forgiveness for her. Justice must be served,” he said.

Recalling the grief of a mother who lost her son in the protests, Fakhrul said, “The boy who represented the hopes and dreams of a family was taken in the most horrific way—shot, thrown into a van, and burned without even confirming if he was alive.

This in a country we fought to free in 1971. The very institutions meant to protect us—police and administration, funded by our taxes—are now responsible for such brutal acts.”

Fakhrul declared, “This cruelty cannot go unpunished. Our foremost duty is to ensure justice for the victims. Secondly, we must rehabilitate the families of those killed and provide proper medical treatment and support to the injured. If we fail to do so, future generations will not forgive us.

Announcing the formation of a dedicated fund to support the victims’ families, he said, “Elections will take place—that is certain. But beyond who wins or loses, today I will request our Acting Chairman to initiate a party fund to support the families of those martyred or injured. The ‘We Are BNP Family’ platform has already begun standing by them.”

Fakhrul’s comments come amid growing tensions following a series of violent clashes and state crackdowns on opposition protests earlier this month.
