World yet tolerates Israeli ‘Genocide by Starvation’

The lead photo published in this daily’s front-page yesterday showing a thin, tiny and extremely malnourished toddler clinging to a woman’s shoulder is another stark and sad reminder how the world continues to tolerate the on-going inhuman Israeli genocide by starvation in occupied Palestine. It also underscores the harrowing hunger toll to have gripped the occupied region. A WFP report said, at least 1 out of 3 Palestinians are not eating for days due to Israeli blockade on the supply of food aid.

However, a recent UNICEF report revealed that a staggering 32,000 young children in Gaza are now facing acute malnutrition due to insufficient food aid. Doctors and patients in Gaza hospitals too have become victims of starvation. And So far as many as 62,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in the genocide being carried out in Gaza with thousands gone missing without any trace since the Israeli aggression.

The billion dollar questions, however, for how long the world would continue to shamefully witness such horrific war crimes inflicted upon innocent civilians in Gaza? How long will it take for the international community to recognise crimes against humanity occurring there? And most important, when would normalcy return in this forsaken strip on earth?

Numerous human rights groups have meticulously documented most of these crimes. And a growing number of governments are responding. Ranging from issuing diplomatic rebukes, voicing public condemnation to imposing sanctions against Israel – but deaths due to planned starvation is not stopping.

Measuring the intense degree of sufferings of Gaza dwellers, whether it is war crimes or genocide – the haunting, underlying question that surfaces from beneath the death and destruction is – What’s next?

Needs be reminded, The Genocide Convention clearly prohibits – deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.

As we had penned many times before, the international community must shoulder its fair share of responsibility and take prompt action to permanently end Israel’s genocide in Gaza. What has been going in Palestine for the last 22 months can only be termed as genocide, and it is part and parcel of a sinister Zionist expansionist ideology that wants to take over the entirety of the occupied State of Palestine.

Against the backdrop of systematic destruction of Palestinians inGaza, we make an urgent call to world leaders, so to unite and quick produce a systematic, comprehensive and concrete response to end these manmade sufferings.

Enough is enough.
