BCB allows Mustafiz to play 2 IPL matches for Delhi Capitals

Sports desk: Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman has been given conditional clearance by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to participate in ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) for Delhi Capitals.

While his national duty limits his availability, BCB has permitted him to feature in franchise’s last two league-stage matches.

Delhi Capitals (DC) have brought Mustafizur Rahman into their IPL squad as a replacement for Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk. However, due to national team commitments, Mustafizur will not be available for full remainder of the tournament.

BCB has confirmed that he will be allowed to play only in the final two league matches for Delhi.

BCB director Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu stated on Thursday, “Mustafizur is currently with national team in UAE. According to our policy, we don’t release players for franchise cricket when they’re on national duty. Once the series ends, he’ll receive clearance for the remaining matches.”

Bangladesh are set to play two T20 internationals against United Arab Emirates on May 17 and 19. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals have a fixture scheduled for May 18, which Mustafiz will miss. However, he is expected to be available for the matches against Mumbai Indians on May 21 and Punjab Kings on May 24.

Currently fifth on the IPL points table, Delhi Capitals are in the race for a playoff spot. The playoffs are scheduled for May 29, 30, and June 1. Whether Mustafizur will be granted permission to take part in those matches remains uncertain, as Bangladesh will begin a T20I series against Pakistan on May 27; a series for which Mustafizur is likely to be selected.

Mustafizur’s full IPL contract is valued at INR 6 crore. With the clearance to play only two matches, he is expected to earn approximately INR 85.5 lakh; around Tk 1.2 crore for his short stint.
