11 held after bringing AL flash procession at Gulistan

Online desk: Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 11 individuals from a flash procession staged by leaders and activists of banned Awami League in the capital’s Gulistan area.
On Sunday, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, confirmed the information.
Following a student-mass uprising that led to ousting of Awami League from power nine months ago, the government issued a notification on May 12 banning all activities of the party, including its affiliate, associate and like-minded organizations.
The notification stated that until the proceedings against Awami League leaders and activists are concluded in International Crimes Tribunal, all types of publications, campaigns in media, online and social platforms, rallies, meetings, conferences and any organizational activities of Awami League and its affiliated, associate and like-minded organizations are hereby banned.
The home ministry notification said that from January 6, 2009 to August 5, 2024, during its time in office, the Awami League and its affiliates engaged in widespread repression, including enforced disappearances, political killings, torture, arson and crimes against humanity.
