BNP leader Ishraque gets bail after six days

As there is no other case against him, there is no bar to his release from jail, Ishraque’s lawyer Taherul Islam Towhid said.
Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain passed the order after his lawyer appealed for his bail.
On April 6, late BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka’s son Ishraque Hossain was arrested from Motijheel area while distributing leaflets protesting price hike of daily essentials after joining a programme of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal.
After that, police said Ishraque was an warranted accused in a case filed Motijheel Police Station under the Special Powers Act in 2020 on charge of vandalising cars.
Later, in the afternoon, he was produced before a court in the case. The court sent him to jail denying bail.
It was learnt that Motijheel police filed the case on November 12, 2020 on charge of vandalising motor vehicles. Ishraque was also made an accused in the case. Later, he got bail from High Court on November 18. After his bail from the High Court was expired, he got bail on January 5 last year surrendering to a lower court.
However, Ishraque could not appear at court on August 18 as he fell sick. On that day, the court issued arrest warrant cancelling his bail. In the case statement, the names of 42 accused including Ishraque were mentioned.
