Missing Bangladeshi student’s body found in Canada’s Winnipeg

Community Desk: Canada’s police recovered the body of a Bangladeshi student from the bank of Red River in Winnipeg, capital of country’s Manitoba province, on Wednesday, 18 days after he went missing from Fort Garry area.

Sakib’s father Asadul Islam said his son was a meritorious student. He got admitted to  Honours in Computer Science and Engineering at the Manitoba University. He was a final year student there.

“I spent a large portion of my life behind Sakib. It’s very painful that my son had left us before our death. We’re totally devastated and finished,” he lamented.

In addition, Sakib was engaged in a part-time job as a data analyst at a company called ‘Bison Transport’ in Manitoba.

According to father Asadul Islam, Sakib used to live in a rented apartment with some other Bangladeshi friends near the Red River in Winnipeg.

Canada’s Winnipeg City Police told Asadul Islam over phone on Wednesday night that they had recovered his son’s body from the bank of a lake near his college. Postmortem of Sakib’s body would be conducted.

Quoting police, Asadul Islam said Sakib had been missing since January 9 but his friends informed police on January 20.

He said the family took the decision to bury Sakib’s body in Winnipeg through the university’s Islamic community. The causes of Sakib’s death would be known after receiving the postmortem report.

Asadul Islam also said his eldest son Hasibuzzaman has passed B.Sc. Engineering. “We sent Sakib to Canada for higher study as he wanted to become an engineer like his elder brother. Now, we have lost everything,” he said, bursting into tears.
